happy

i have an only child. he rarely goes to play with the other kids because, well, there arent too many kids his age where we live.

last sunday, we went to his cousin's birthday party and he was in kiddie heaven!  there were games and prizes, a photobooth, cotton candy, cakes and ice cream.  but did he notice them? NO. the moment we stepped in, he zeroed in to the Little Tikes Playground.

at first, he went inside the cubicles and was happy getting in and out. i picked him up and sat him on the slide and waited for his reaction. he was scared to slide down on his own, he's never done it before.  tentatively, he inched downwards and slid to my arms. for a moment, i saw the fear, then it changed to exhiliration. "more," he said.

he observed how the other kids were able to climb up the ladder. with help from his cousins, he was able to  do just that. i only had to hold his hand while he positioned himself on the slide.

the party had ended and he had only eaten a small Krispy Kreme donut. while kids were singing happy birthday, he was on the slide. when the games were going on, he was still on the slide. obviously, he couldnt care less what was happening around him as long as he was on the slide.

on the way home, he snuggled up to my shoulder and whispered,"happy, mommy."
