the prime of lime

first of all, let me apologize if i end up being off-tangent. my body is being defeated by the common cold, and i am powering through it as i write this post. so, just in case i start to make no sense at all, blame it on the medicine.

must.control.chills. maybe i'll fix myself some hot chocolate. that'll make me feel warm.

from where i come from, we power through the common cold. when i was young, i went to school, runny nose and all. just drink plenty of fluids and juice, take medicines if you must, but you go on with your life. sometimes, you power through fever and chills just to get the job done. irrational? i dont know, but it is practiced here. for some reason, we tend to believe that as long as you can function with the help of science, you have to go to school/work.

heavy feeling. arms feel heavy. fingers are hitting the wrong keys. eyes are drooping. must stay awake....

as moms, we cant afford to get sick. we have a lot to do: tears to dry, toys to pick up, dinners to make. there's just so much we have to do that stopping is not an option. would our kids understand that "mommy nurse", the one who kisses boo-boos to make it feel better, needs to lie down and rest? and if they do, can we trust other people to make sure our kids are bathed, fed and read to? the dishes washed, the laundry folded, our house is put in order as we lie shivering in the dark?

i have been struck down from the prime of lime...

but i will power through for my son. i will feed him, bathe him, according to schedule. in return, he will give me the best back rub his little hands can do because he becomes "jackjack nurse". at the end of the day, we have to allow our body to heal and let other take care of us.

okay, this is far as i can go. i'm going underneath layers...

  4. There is nothing worse than being sick when you have a little one. I remember those days of self sacrifice so clearly, when I was so achy and weary, but my babies needed me and so there was no time for pampering. I feel for you. Get well soon.

I suggest tea with real fresh squeezed lemon 3 times a day.

  6. Sending you lots of hugs and hope you get well soon!! My grandma used to give me a shot of whiskey, lemon juice, and honey. It always made me feel better. :)
