she happened to be online, so i asked her what was she getting to old for. i was expecting games, corporate jibber-jabber...she said she was getting to old for everything. there she was, a single woman rising up the corporate ladder, working at one of the highest paying international companies who could come and go as she pleases, and she feels too old for everything. if you think you're too old for everything, then what else are you planning to do with your life?
this feeling comes all the time, and you know it's time to fuel the passion when things are getting boring. this friend loves baking, but she keeps putting off classes because she says she's busy and it's expensive. she also used to do cross stitch. just like any hobby, cross stitching demands time and resources. you spend time looking for patterns, searching for threads and needles. find a quiet spot and start stitching, having it framed once you're done. i pointed out all of these to her and she chuckled as she remembered. sometimes, you have to fuel your passion. you need to invest in your hobbies. want to grow an herb garden? buy herbs and pots. read up on how you can make them grow. dreaming of being a better home cook? go online and search for recipes and tips. sign up for a weekend cooking class. in her case, i pointed out that the rewards she would get from taking the class would outweigh the cost. she can put up a business someday, doing what she loves. photo from here.
how do you fuel your passion?

Being a working, single mom it's really really hard to "find" the time to even fuel passion once you've let it slip away. I'm usually able to hype myself up by reminding myself that I DESERVE the time and remind myself about how good I'll feel when I'm doing it. It's not easy but it really helps to give myself that pep talk! :)
ReplyDeletei've been working on my photography. it's always been a passion of mine and now that the kids are growing up and older i have a little more freedom to fuel that passion! btw..i quoted you on my miscellany monday post!
ReplyDeleteI feel like I have no time for hobbies!! When I get home from work, a friend/boyfriend always calls me up to do something. There just isn't time in the day... I really want a garden, though.
ReplyDeletei write letters, design cards and writing papers. i love to bake, so i download recipes and try them at home. i also tend to a vegetable garden at home :).
ReplyDeleteI totally agree! I found years ago that I have to do something creative on a regular basis to maintain my own well-being. Especially as mothers, we need to remember who WE are!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by my blog.

Ann-Marie

ReplyDeleteHer comment is why I started blogging... to reconnect with Me! I have no idea who the person in the mirror is most of the time ans feel like I am too old ot find out... but I'm working on it!
Stopping in from SITS also. Funny, I started to feel old and unmotivated. I have two small children and a full time job and I was feeling like I was always rushing, having no time for myself. So I started to put it all on paper (or should I say cyberspace) via a blog and I feel just as tired but much more motivated!
